Original Gilbert Shelton Artwork 1960S Wonder Warthog

Original wonder wart-hog artwork from the pages of drag cartoons. The artwork consists of 6 pen nad ink panels. Each panel measures 16 x 22.

The panels are heavy paper. There are a few small tears at the bottom edge of the first page and the left edge of the 2nd and last page.

These are of absolutely no harm and once framed these will disappear completely. I cannot date this exactly as my collection of drag cartoons is incomplete os i could not determine which issue it appeared in. Drag cartoons was published by pete millar from 1963 thru 1968 and this particular cartoon likely appeared in 64 or 65 judging by the topic and style of the cars. The cartoon's topic was a dragstrip operator's need to get more spectators in the stands. The title is wonder wart-hog comes to the drags!

The title page is particularly interesting to drag race collectors as it features an altered wheelbase dodge vs. nA fx studebaker. Taek note of just how much the wheelbase is altered on the dodge. The cartoon also includes the little red wagon, hermna munster driving the dragula along with lassie, and hoss from bonanza. Also appearing are lyndon johnson, hubert humphrey, richard nixon, barry goldwater, dick tracy, and the beatles. This artwork comes from the estate of pete millar for whom i am sole agent. If you have any questions please ask prior to the final day of the auction. All of the photos i offer are vintage. This means they were shot in teh period and developed at that time. This is the only example i have and i do not own any negatives. I offer only vintage material which means it is from the period and not soem current item meant to look old.
